Leonardo - or Leo as he prefers to be called - works as Visual Designer at Scout24 and is originally from Venezuela. We talked to him about how his individual background influences his work, what his biggest challenge has been and what he misses most from his home country.

1.Where are you originally from and what is your job at Scout24?

Leonardo: I’m from Valencia, Venezuela. I work as a Visual Designer in the Creative Studio Team, which supports the company in all issues regarding campaigning, brand and communication design.

2. What do you enjoy about your job here at Scout24?

Leonardo: In my case I started with my job during the Covid19 pandemic, and it was a new experience for me to work from home all the time. During the onboarding process I felt very comfortable with my team and we could always clear every question or doubt despite the distance.

What I like most about Scout24 is the work environment, the diversity, and the cooperation between different teams. I think these are very important factors to join the company.

3. How does your individual background influence your work at Scout24 and with your team?

Leonardo: In my previous job I worked as an Art Director in an advertising agency creating digital campaigns in the area of social media. Working at Scout24 offers me the chance to combine my creativity with my technical knowledge that I have learned in e-commerce and advertising companies.

4. What has been the biggest challenge moving to and working in a new country such as Germany?

Leonardo: I think that at the beginning one of the challenges was the language but people in Berlin are very open and it is easy to integrate. Of course I could only communicate in English when I first arrived but over time I have managed to improve my German language skills.

5. Do you miss anything here that you had in your home country?

Leonardo: I have been living in Germany since 2007 and it has become my country, but what I miss most about Venezuela is the nature and the fresh fruits.

6. Which advice do you have for someone who wants to move to Germany or who just recently moved to Germany?

Leonardo: Basic German language skills -at least a B2 course- are needed for employment. In addition, you should start looking for an apartment with enough time, at least 6 months in advance.
